Took my Circuit Analysis final exam today. It took the full three hours to complete. That leaves two more exams to go: Computer Architecture and Statistics and Applications. I finally turned in my CS1322 time sheets. Better late than never, I suppose. I also discovered an interesting Economics site called the Library of Economics and Liberty, with all sorts of useful information.

We’re flat broke, but hey we do it in style

Studying for my Circuit Analysis final is proving to be a futile affair. I took my Economics final exam today. We’ll see if spending an entire day studying does any good at all. In the evening, I proctored the Object-Oriented Programming final exam. I studied the banker’s algorithm for Computer Architecture, hoping to do something productive. Maryam told me not to write mean things about her so I’ve tactfully left her out of today’s entry.

I spent a larger part of the day studying for my Economics final on Tuesday - everything from aggregate supply and demand to macroeconomic controveries to fiscal and monetary policy. Such is the mundane life during finals week. Adam and I took a break and watched Futurama (5×03 The Route of All Evil). Nicky and I made spaghetti and meatballs for dinner.

I overslept. Adam and I went and ate lunch at the International House of Pancakes. I tried the Colorado Omelet. Later in the evening, I installed the ALSA sound drivers for Linux. It took a long time. It still isn’t fully working the way I would like, but the sound quality is definitely an improvement over the default OSS kernel drivers. My goal was to at least study Economics tonight, but I completely failed at that by instead playing TetriNet with the rest of my roommates.

Almost there now

The last Digital Design Lab of the semester. The students demonstrated their final projects. Lunch was provided for us from Little Dino’s Subs, courtesy of our head TA, Andrew. It was also the last Economics class of the term. It was a fairly interesting class and now I am actually psyched about learning more the subject. It is pretty amazing how easily a good teacher can make you interested in a subject you know nothing about. It is also equally amazing how easily a bad teacher can make you lose that interest.

I compiled the latest 2.4.20 kernel and enabled VESA framebuffer support for the console (and yes, it displays the penguin logo on startup). I also graded the students’ P6 code.

Finally

I turned in my statistics project during class. The professor gave us sample final exam questions. In Computer Architecture, we talked about deadlock recovery, and were given solutions to all our previous quizzes. In Circuit Analysis, the teacher lectured on the basics of operational amplifiers. All my course work is now officially complete until finals!

So I tried to productive after classes today but it didn’t work out. I ended up talking to Maryam for a full hour or so. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. The final CS1322 recitation was tonight. We covered quite a few topics and the lecture took up the full two hours. That wasn’t very fun. For dinner I grabbed a few burritos from Taco Bell. I’m tired.

Petty laws breed great crimes

Took a left turn on South Cobb (first time ever!) to see my probation officer at Professional Probation Service, Inc. (PPS) at the Hightower Shopping Plaza. Like all government services, PPS is a true model of beaurocratic optimality. Nevertheless, the officer was nice and happy to see that I had already completed some community service before our first meeting.

At the TA meeting we discussed finals grading and Thursday lunch. After classes, I finished my Statistics extra credit project. I used EMACS (AUC TeX mode), LaTeX, GNU Plot, GNU Octave, The GIMP, and a combination of other free software products to complete the assignment.

One down, 39 to go

I went to the dermatologist today at Crawford Long Hospital at Emory before heading to school. My Circuit Analysis homework (which I didn’t do over Thanksgiving break) got pushed back to Wednesday. After school, I went to the Borders bookstore on Ponce de Leon Ave. for my Hands on Atlanta community service orientation. It was a short and small meeting, and counts as one hour of community service. Nicky brought back some steak from Red Lobster after work. It was tasty. I also made a few more minor modifications to the journal software. Mainly, I added subject support to each entry, though I’m not going to go back and change all the old entries - at least, not yet.

Lots of driving, lots of traffic. I took some photography hardware with me. I made it back to Atlanta safely. Some additional, minor tweaks were made to the web page layout.
