Be happy in your work

Installed and configured the tetrinet-x TetriNet server on the Linux box. Upgraded Java to 1.4.2. Bought ATYT at 12.98. Got a head start and went to the library and checked out quite a few books that I need for class before the other students could grab them. Installed sml/nj.

Subscribed to the CERT security mailing list. Learned the basics of using the CGI perl module. The VB-601 motherboard arrived in the mail by UPS, and I shortly after installed it onto the family room computer along with the wireless ethernet card. Everything went smoothly except for the fact that the processor retention clip was missing; I went ahead and set up the machine anyway. It also seems that Windows ME does not have native support for WEP encryption. I also networked the family room printer.

Changed the air filter on the Pontiac. Learned about magic squares. A Diophantine equation is an equation in which only integer solutions are allowed. Subscribed to the SecurityFocus mailing list and helped remove the W32.Blaster.Worm with the help of Symantec. Read about the composition of ciphers and product ciphers. Finally, added some books on Electrical Engineering to The Assayer database.

I got hired as Teaching Assistant in the Fall again, but I’m not entirely sure I’ll accept the offer. Paid my tuition for next term. Cancelled Earthlink internet service. Friendly people, but long hold times. Woke up in the early morning to take my car to Chris Myers to fix an engine problem that Pontiac had earlier released a recall notice for. Went to the dentist to get my teeth cleaned. Had lunch at Pho 88, an interesting Vietnamese restaurant on Azalea.

The Barik Automation web site now uses php-cgiwrap to lock out other users from viewing the PHP source code. Configured the Barik Automation web site to process credit card transactions using Verotel Billing Solutions. Also made some modifications to the site layout. Added database support and an online message feature on the school web site.

Configured mySQL on the Barik Automation website. Added some code to the barikjr release script, which can generate nightly builds. Also made quite a bit of progress on the installer for barikjr. Though the installer is still extremely buggy, the install script will now prompt the user for configuration information and create the necessary tables for the SQL database.

It is our choices Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities

Finished reading Harry Potter. The MediaCom cable modem technician came by and I helped him set up our connection. I then reconfigured the router and cloned the MAC address of the original PC. Also enabled WEP encryption, and upgraded the firmware on the router. Installed the Windows version of gaim. Added Ethan to the daily page.

Upgraded my Pair account status to Advanced for Barik Automation, which provides me with SSH shell access, as well as a mySQL database and custom CGI.

I stopped by the Cingular store in the morning. Went to the new Mobile Public Library on Grelot Road in the afternoon. It’s very nice. Received an e-mail from JustDeals indicating that my motherboard should arrive by UPS on Monday. Things are still going mostly according to schedule, with only minor delays.

I was finally able to get in touch with Mediacom (800-239-8411). A technician will come this Friday between one and five in the afternoon to set up our cable modem access. Grades for the Summer 2003 term became available on Oscar. I was quite disapointed to discover that my grade in Microelectronic Circuits was one lower than what I had expected to receive. It turns out that a mistake was made when my grade was assigned; now all is well again, and my miserable day is not so miserable after all.

I spent a few hours in the morning here at the university and studied Electromagnetics in their new library. The new library is nice, though it seems a little awkward to navigate. I also wrote a PDF version of the parent handbook for my mother’s school.

For lunch my dad and I went out to eat at the Brick Pit BBQ restaurant, chosen as one of the five best BBQ restaurants in the South. In the evening I went to Ryan’s house and played on his custom MAME cabinet.

Neither Comcast cable modem nor Bellsouth DSL (877-315-1279) is available in our area. My sister and I went to Barnes and Noble and purchased a hard cover version of Harry Potter; I just couldn’t wait any more. I also can’t send e-mail to America Online users from chronos, because the AOL mail server says that it is a residential dynamic IP address. Consequently, I reconfigured exim (using eximconfig) to use the smarthost option with smtp.comcast.net as the outgoing mail server.
