Made DNS changes to the ds-x domain through Pair. Turned in my VLSI design project. Adam and I had lunch at Junior’s. Finished up homework for Microelectronic Circuits Lab. Also wrote up a lab report for our previous experiment.

Configured Internet filtering and Internet cutoff on the router for my computers, in a desparate attempt at increasing productivity. There shall be no more reading of livejournals. I’m such an addict.

Adam and I went to Georgia Tech in the afternoon to make last minute changes to our VLSI project. On the way home, we made a short stop at Barnes and Noble, where I finally used my gift card and purchased a mathematical text for leisurely reading. Some, however, may argue that expanding transcendental functions is not leisurely. They may prove to be right.

Upgraded freya to Debian testing. The evening was spent in Microelectronic Circuits Lab designing various filters and comparing them with the theoretical results.

Ben and I spent all day working on the frame analyzer for Compilers & Interpreters – well into three in the morning. We also fixed several bugs from the previous project. I went straight to bed when I got home.

So I spent most of today working on a long-term research project. Began by using the test structure of 1A6Q, and the exon boundaries from Ensembl.

Next, I downloaded and configured the software needed to do the analysis. BioJava is an open-source project dedicated to providing Java tools to process biological data. Xerces Java 2 is used as the XML parsing tool, and is available with as a Debian package.

Time to get comfortable with SAX (Simple API for XML) and XML parsing in general, but that will have to wait until I get more free time.

College Fair

Attended the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science college fair in the afternoon to talk about Georgia Tech and various other college topics with the students. Finally got a chance to see the newly renovated ASMS auditorium. Kat needs to send me pictures so that I can finish this entry.

Spent the evening installing Windows XP and performing other upgrades to the computers at the house. Installed AVG Anti-Virus (AVG-1-20126666-XSE) on all the machines.

I really need to learn sml over Fall Break. With that said, here are some important resources on sml/nj:

I left for Mobile around eight at night to avoid the rush hour traffic. I had a little bit of rain of the way to slow me down, but I arrived safe and sound around one in the morning.

I had breakfast for a change – a nice bowl of warm, cinnamon oatmeal. Studied for Compilers, but ended up missing quite a few questions on the exam as a result of my inability to correctly generate regular expressions.

Set up account on the MSDN Academic Alliance for both the Electrical and Engineering department (mail) as well as the College of Computing (prism).

I have so many extra domains lying around that I decided to make ds-x point to something. I’ll probably use it for more exotic web development projects, since barik.net is pretty much now officially my personal journal.
