Another dose of kudos for Good Guy Mark -- I've just tried a different PSU on a long-since dead WRT54G, and it's alive again! Thanks, Mark -- and to Titus for bringing this blog entry to the world (nearly three years ago!)

In my case the power supply that came with the router (12v/500mA) got toasted. I replaced it with a power supply rated at 12V/1000mA. It is working again but every once in a while the power LED on the router starts blinking and all 4 Ethernet LEDs are lit. I have flashed the latest official firmware (v1.51.0). I have to power cycle to recover network connectivity.

Just wanted to say big thanks to the good guy Mark! You solved our problem and we now have a fully working WRT54G, seems that some PSUs that come with this device are of very bad quality.

If you have a constant on power and diagnostic LED then it's worth checking your power supply before you bin it. My power supply had dipped to 4.6v under load, and was not enough for the router to run. With a stronger supply on the running voltage was 4.86v @ 1.1A Hope this helps others!
