As if these two products weren’t disasters in themselves, I’m now faced with the fact that spellcheck does not work in Outlook Express. From Frequently asked questions about Windows XP Professional x64 Edition:

The version of Outlook Express on Windows XP Professional x64 Edition is a 64-bit version. But the spell checking in Outlook Express is dependent on Microsoft Office, which is still a 32-bit program. Since a 64-bit program can’t call a 32-bit Dynamic Link Library (DLL), there won’t be support for spell checking in Windows XP Professional x64 Edition until we have a 64-bit version of Microsoft Office.

The conspiracy theorist in me says that this is intentional on the part of Microsoft, to force us to purchase Windows Vista when and if it arrives in order to get working 64-bit support. Either way, Microsoft as of now is doing an incredible job of holding back the adoption of 64-bit architectures. At least there’s Mozilla Thunderbird.
