Upgrading FreeBSD 6.1 to 6.2

Last year, I upgraded FreeBSD from version 6.0 to 6.1 through the use of an upgrade script from Daemonology. This year, the same procedure was followed, with similarly good results. First read this post for instructions on upgrading from 6.1 to 6.2-RC1, then read this post which provides the minor modifications needed for 6.2-RELEASE.

FreeBSD ziggy.multifx.net 6.2-RELEASE FreeBSD 6.2-RELEASE #0:
Fri Jan 12 10:40:27 UTC 2007
root@dessler.cse.buffalo.edu:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC i386

The upgrade will require a reboot, which reset my 180 days of continuous uptime on ziggy (the last time the machine required a reboot was also during an upgrade — from 6.0 to 6.1).

FreeBSD 6.2 was officially released on January 15th. Visit the 6.2R announcement page for more information.

  1. Awesome! Just upgraded from 6.1 to 6.2. Your script was incredibly helpful and fast!
